The School of Arts and Sciences is the heart of King College. We celebrate our powerful connection to the tradition of liberal learning in Western culture. We focus our energy on equipping our graduates to be culture warriors wherever they find themselves. We want them to make a difference in the name of Christ in their families, workplaces, churches, communities, and in the world at large.
Our competent faculty and our array of courses can:
Liberal arts courses and majors stress clear communication, deep understanding of ideas and theories, and thoughtful analysis of texts, images, and ideas. We prepare you for a career or further study. We stress the depth and flexibility that you need for a rich life after college, where pundits predict you may change jobs a dozen times.
At the time of its founding in 1867 King taught only four traditional subjects of a college education: Latin, Greek, science, and mathematics. We've come a long way! Today we offer 21 majors in traditional areas like Biology and in non-traditional disciplines such as Digital Media. In addition all our programs have minors, and there are four innovative minors: Intercultural Studies, Leadership, Philosophy, and Security & Intelligence Studies.
Many of the King College's distinctive initiatives like the King Forest Project, the Sign of the George print shop, the C.A.R.T. astronomy initiative, our state-of-the art Online Writing Lab--OWL, and the Buechner Institute are natural extensions of what we do every day in our classrooms and laboratories. The Arts and Sciences faculty are amazing advertisements for liberal leaning and life-long curiosity.
